OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra and specialized financial services tool

OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Astra, a highly advanced AI model designed for complex, end-to-end workflows including reasoning, coding, and scientific analysis. Following its release on September 3, 2026, OpenAI President Greg Brockman characterized the launch as the beginning of the AGI era. The model features a massive context window of 1,050,000 tokens.

In tandem with this technological leap, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a specialized platform tailored for investment banking and equity research. Developed in collaboration with design partners Morgan Stanley and Evercore, the tool integrates premium datasets from providers such as LSEG News, Daloopa, PitchBook, and Crunchbase. The service is designed to automate labor-intensive tasks for analysts, including financial modeling, company research, and the generation of client-facing pitchbooks and PowerPoint presentations using institutional style guides.

Due to unprecedented demand for the Astra model, OpenAI has temporarily paused new sign-ups for its $200-a-month ChatGPT Pro tier to protect system stability and ensure service quality for existing subscribers. While the Pro tier is restricted, other subscription levels and API access remain available.
