OpenAI launches Dots autonomous AI agents

OpenAI has introduced Dots, a new class of autonomous AI agents designed to manage complex, multi-step tasks with minimal human intervention. Announced at DevDay 2026, these agents are powered by the GPT-6 Astra model and are designed to operate continuously in the background, even after a user has finished interacting with them.

Each Dot agent functions within its own dedicated cloud-based computer and browser environment, allowing it to interact with over 4,000 connected applications, including Slack and Microsoft Teams. This setup enables the agents to perform diverse professional duties such as data analysis, software coding, research, and customer service. To ensure security, OpenAI has implemented safeguards like a 'read-only' mode to prevent unauthorized control of a user's hardware.

Dots are being rolled out to ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. Alongside this launch, OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, a more cost-effective model optimized for professional and coding tasks. Additionally, a new 'Pro 500' subscription tier has been announced, offering access to Astra Ultrafast, which provides significantly higher token generation speeds for intensive workloads.
