OpenAI launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna with 50% lower API prices FAST-MOVING
OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 model family with the launch of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. These new models are designed to provide high-performance capabilities at a significantly lower cost than previous generations, building on the architecture of the flagship GPT-6 Astra.
GPT-6 Sol is optimized for complex reasoning, professional workflows, and software development. OpenAI claims that Sol makes approximately half as many factual and coding errors compared to GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6 Luna is a lighter, faster model intended for high-volume, routine tasks such as document summarization and data extraction.
A major component of this release is a 50% reduction in API pricing compared to the promotional rates for GPT-5.6. GPT-6 Sol is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, while GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. Both models feature a 1.05 million token context window. Additionally, improved prompt caching can reduce processing costs by up to 90% for cached prompts.
