OpenAI launches GPT‑5.6 model family and names Prabhjeet Singh managing director for India

OpenAI announced a two‑part development. The company appointed former Uber India executive Prabhjeet Singh as its managing director for India, tasking him with leading consumer growth, enterprise adoption and strategic partnerships in the fast‑growing market.

At the same time OpenAI unveiled GPT‑5.6, a new family of large‑language models that includes three tiers – Sol (flagship), Terra (lower‑cost with performance comparable to the previous flagship) and Luna (fast, cheaper option). The models feature new modes such as Max Reasoning and Ultra for deeper or more complex workflows, and place a stronger emphasis on cybersecurity capabilities and layered safeguards against misuse. Availability is limited to trusted partners and organizations, with broader rollout planned after review with the U.S. government. OpenAI also highlighted pricing per million tokens, prompt‑caching details and recommended product‑level integration strategies for SaaS teams, urging engineers to route tasks to appropriate model tiers, apply guardrails, monitor cost and latency, and provide fallback paths when a model is unavailable.
