Artificial intelligence industry shifts toward efficiency and hardware growth
The artificial intelligence sector is undergoing rapid shifts in model deployment, economic impact, and hardware dependency. Major developers OpenAI and Anthropic are releasing more efficient, lower-cost models, such as GPT-6 Sol/Luna and Opus 5.5, to meet corporate demand for speed and affordability over raw power.
On the hardware side, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) remains a critical pillar of the industry, reporting significant revenue and profit growth driven by the demand for AI chips used by companies like Nvidia and Apple.
However, the rapid integration of AI presents various challenges. Economists note that while AI creates new roles, it also threatens to displace many entry-level office positions. In the creative and academic sectors, concerns persist regarding the accuracy of AI-generated summaries, which can distort human memory, and the reliability of AI detection tools used to identify machine-written text. Additionally, the evolution of AI from simple chatbots to autonomous agentic systems—capable of planning and executing complex tasks—is blurring the line between assistive software and digital workers.
