OpenAI models solve Navier-Stokes equations and WWI cipher
OpenAI's artificial intelligence models have achieved significant breakthroughs in mathematics and historical cryptography. An internal model recently resolved the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems that has eluded mathematicians since 1845. This achievement has sparked debate within the mathematical community regarding the role of human researchers and whether the AI built upon existing human progress or engaged in plagiarism of recent work.
Additionally, OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model successfully deciphered a German radio message from November 1918 that had remained unsolved for over a century. Using the ADFGVX cipher method, the model identified the message as stating that an English cruiser arrived in Sevastopol on the 24th, with an Allied squadron expected on the 26th. The model utilized a documented keyword, 'TRUPPENVERSCHIEBUNG', despite a chronological discrepancy between the key's recorded usage and the message's transmission date.
