OpenAI partners with Cathedral Systems to bolster cybersecurity

OpenAI has announced a security partnership with Cathedral Systems to strengthen its AI-powered cyber defenses. As part of an upcoming internal security sprint, researchers from Cathedral Systems will use OpenAI models to identify system weaknesses, test existing protections, and develop methods to address potential threats.

To further encourage independent research, OpenAI has significantly increased its bug bounty program. The company has more than quadrupled average rewards for medium, high, and critical findings. Critical vulnerabilities in core products, including ChatGPT, Codex, and the API Platform, can now earn base bounties of up to $30,000. Exceptional critical findings are eligible for base rewards of up to $100,000, with total payouts potentially reaching approximately $172,000 when including bonuses.

This initiative aims to create a continuous defense cycle, utilizing AI to find and patch vulnerabilities before they can be exploited by attackers. The company also noted that traditional cybersecurity measures alone are no longer sufficient as AI capabilities evolve.
