OpenAI cuts GPT-5. 6 Sol API pricing amid rising competition

OpenAI has announced a temporary reduction in API pricing for its frontier GPT-5. 6 Sol model, cutting costs by more than 20% for the next three months. Under the new structure, the cost for 1 million input tokens drops from $5 to $4, while output tokens decrease from $30 to $20 per million. This move aims to maintain competitiveness against rivals like Anthropic and emerging Chinese AI developers.

Data from Ramp indicates a shifting landscape in enterprise AI adoption. While Anthropic currently maintains a larger overall market share among surveyed businesses, OpenAI is experiencing faster quarter-over-quarter spending growth. Specifically, business spending on OpenAI products rose by 82%, outpacing Anthropic’s 76% increase.

Conversely, reports suggest some Anthropic customers are pivoting toward lower-cost models rather than the company’s most powerful tools. This trend comes as Anthropic prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO) that could value the company at approximately $2 trillion.
