OpenAI restricts access to GPT-Rosalind-6 biology model

OpenAI has introduced GPT-Rosalind-6, a frontier reasoning system designed specifically for biology, drug discovery, and translational medicine. Released on October 30, 2026, the model is available exclusively to vetted scientists, research institutes, companies, and government partners.

Technically, the system utilizes the existing model weights from GPT-6 Astra without additional training data or specialized post-training. Instead, the specialization is achieved through modified deployment boundaries and safety protocols. This approach allows the model to handle biological queries more effectively while managing dual-use risks.

In performance testing, the model achieved a 100 percent success rate on benign biological questions, compared to 91.6 percent for GPT-6 Astra. Regarding sensitive biosafety queries, the refusal rate decreased to 79.0 percent from the 99.8 percent seen in the base model. OpenAI has classified the system as high risk in the biology and chemistry categories, and critical in the cybersecurity category within its internal preparedness framework.
