OpenAI rolls out upgraded ChatGPT memory and new Lockdown Mode security features

OpenAI announced a major overhaul of ChatGPT’s memory system, introducing a new "Dreaming V3" architecture that better retains user information, updates memories as time passes, and reduces computational costs. The update adds a readable memory‑summary page where users can view, edit, or delete stored details and specify topics for the assistant to recall or ignore. It is being rolled out first to Plus and Pro subscribers in the United States, with plans to extend the enhanced memory to free‑tier users in the coming weeks and to additional countries thereafter.

At the same time, OpenAI launched an optional "Lockdown Mode" for personal ChatGPT accounts. The feature disables web‑connected tools such as live browsing, image retrieval, and file downloads, aiming to limit data‑exfiltration pathways and protect against prompt‑injection attacks. A new session‑management panel lets users review active sessions and log out of suspicious activity. Both the memory upgrade and Lockdown Mode are part of OpenAI’s effort to improve safety and personalization for the growing ChatGPT user base.
