OpenAI rolls out enterprise spend controls and reveals $34 billion 2025 expenditure
OpenAI has added credit usage analytics and new spend‑control features to its ChatGPT Enterprise admin console. The tools let workspace owners view detailed leaderboards, model‑usage metrics and plugin interactions, and set configurable weekly limits that can trigger alerts or hard caps, helping organisations manage AI costs more effectively.
In the same period, OpenAI reported spending $34 billion in 2025, driven by $19 billion on research and development, $6 billion on sales and marketing and the remainder on infrastructure and operations. Revenue reached roughly $13 billion, leaving a net loss of about $39 billion. The scale of the outlay is prompting the company to tighten cost discipline as it prepares for a potential public listing, while it continues to compete with rivals such as Anthropic, Google DeepMind, Meta and xAI.
