OpenAI rolls out GPT‑5.5 Instant upgrade and in‑chat email sending for ChatGPT

OpenAI announced a new version of its ChatGPT model, GPT‑5.5 Instant, which aims to cut hallucinations by more than half and reduce factual errors by over a third. The upgrade improves the model’s ability to understand the underlying intent of user queries, retain long‑conversation context across multiple messages, and handle complex, multi‑condition requests. It also enhances geographic awareness, allowing more accurate local recommendations with optional images.

In a separate update, OpenAI added a feature that lets ChatGPT users draft, edit, and send email messages directly from the chat interface. The tool works with linked Gmail or Outlook accounts and is currently available to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. Users can generate a formatted email, make manual edits, and send it without leaving the app, though file attachments are not yet supported. The feature builds on the “Writing Blocks” interface introduced in December 2025.
