OpenAI to discontinue ChatGPT Atlas browser on Aug 9

OpenAI announced that its ChatGPT Atlas browser will cease operation on 9 August 2026. The service, launched on 21 October 2025 for macOS, will no longer receive functionality or security updates after that date. OpenAI warned that none of the browser’s data – bookmarks, browsing history, or open tabs – will be migrated automatically to the new ChatGPT desktop app. Users must export bookmarks as HTML files and manually save any important links; cookies and login credentials cannot be exported and will require re‑sign‑in on other browsers. The company cautioned that continued use of Atlas after the shutdown could expose users to security vulnerabilities. OpenAI recommends switching to its new ChatGPT desktop application or using the Chrome extension or sidebar for similar functionality.
