OpenAI plans major ChatGPT overhaul into AI superapp ahead of IPO

OpenAI is preparing its biggest product redesign since the launch of ChatGPT, aiming to transform the chatbot into a comprehensive "super‑app." The redesign will roll out over the next few weeks as updates to the web portal and mobile apps, adding deep integration of its coding tool Codex, new AI agents capable of multi‑step tasks, image‑generation features and partner services such as Canva and Booking.com.

The strategy is tied to a shift toward enterprise customers: roughly two million businesses currently generate about 40 % of OpenAI’s revenue, a share the company expects to rise to 50 % by year‑end. Codex now has more than five million weekly active users, while ChatGPT serves over 900 million weekly active users and more than 50 million paying subscribers. By broadening the platform’s functionality and focusing on high‑margin corporate users, OpenAI hopes to strengthen its financial profile ahead of a planned U.S. IPO later this year.
