OpenAI is significantly expanding access to its latest AI models through a series of updates to ChatGPT. Free and Go tier users will soon have access to unlimited text-based conversations, a change expected to be fully implemented in the coming week. These users will also transition to GPT-5.6 Luna as their default model, a version optimized for speed and efficiency.

To enhance complex tasks, OpenAI is introducing a “Think” button for free tier accounts, allowing the model to dedicate more reasoning time to difficult queries. While text chats will become unlimited, usage restrictions will remain for higher-resource features such as file uploads, image generation, and voice mode.

Paid subscribers on Plus and Pro plans will receive upgrades to the GPT-5.6 Sol model. This premium model is designed to be more factual and concise, with an emphasis on reducing errors in sensitive areas like finance, medicine, and law. Subscribers will also gain a new reasoning slider, enabling them to manually balance response speed against depth of analysis for tasks such as coding, research, or planning.
