OpenAI removes text‑chat limits for free ChatGPT users, adds Think button and upgrades models
OpenAI announced that the text‑chat rate limit for its free and Go tiers will be removed, allowing unlimited text conversations starting next week. The company is also switching the default model for these tiers to GPT‑5.6 Luna, replacing GPT‑5.5 Instant. A new “Think” button will let free users request deeper reasoning for complex queries.
Paid Plus and Pro subscribers receive an upgraded GPT‑5.6 Sol model that OpenAI says reduces factual errors by about 68 % versus GPT‑5.5 Instant, and a new slider lets users control how much reasoning effort the model applies.
