OpenAI launches GPT-5.6 models, GPT‑Live voice and ChatGPT Work

OpenAI released the GPT‑5.6 family—Sol, Terra and Luna—on Amazon Bedrock, offering flagship reasoning, balanced performance and low‑cost inference across US East (N. Virginia), Ohio and West (Oregon) regions. The company also published a new prompting guide for GPT‑5.6 Sol, recommending shorter, outcome‑first prompts that reduced token usage by 41‑66 % and cut costs by up to two‑thirds in internal coding‑agent tests.

At the same time OpenAI rolled out GPT‑Live, a full‑duplex voice model that can listen and speak simultaneously, adding natural back‑channel cues such as “mhmm”. Two versions launched globally on July 8: GPT‑Live‑1 for paid tiers and a lighter GPT‑Live‑1 mini for free users. Internal testing showed the model’s emotional‑reliance score fell to 0.82 from 0.88, a change the company says is not statistically significant.

A further announcement introduced ChatGPT Work, a cloud‑based AI agent that leverages GPT‑5.6 to manage tasks across email, Slack, calendars and code repositories. The agent breaks user‑defined goals into steps, persists across sessions and can produce finished documents, spreadsheets or web pages, positioning ChatGPT as an autonomous work platform rather than a simple Q&A chatbot.
