Opendoor delays break-even target by six to eight weeks

Opendoor Technologies has announced a delay in reaching its adjusted net income break-even point, pushing the target back by six to eight weeks. CEO Nejatian cited a challenging market environment as a primary factor for this shift.

The company's second-quarter results fell short of analyst expectations. Opendoor reported a loss of $0.17 per share, compared to the anticipated loss of $0.08 per share. Additionally, quarterly revenue reached $883 million, missing the consensus estimate of approximately $902.6 million.

Macroeconomic pressures in the United States, particularly rising mortgage rates, continue to dampen demand in the real estate sector. According to Freddie Mac, 30-year fixed mortgage rates recently reached 6.95 percent. These high interest rates, compounded by recent Federal Reserve policy, have created difficult financing conditions for private buyers and impacted the broader housing market.
