OpenShot 4.0 released with local AI and color grading

OpenShot Studios has released OpenShot 4.0, a major update to its open-source video editing software. Developed over the course of a year by creator Jonathan Thomas, this version introduces a significant technical overhaul by migrating from Qt5 to Qt6. This transition provides a more stable, native timeline and improved compatibility with modern systems, including better Wayland support on Linux.

Key functional additions include a dedicated Recording View, which allows users to capture screen content, webcams, microphones, and system audio simultaneously as separate, editable clips. The update also introduces professional-grade color grading tools, such as color wheels, curves, LUT support, and video scopes like Luma Waveform and Vectorscope.

Furthermore, the software integrates local AI capabilities. Users can perform object masking and detection using models like YOLOv5 and EfficientSAM that run entirely on the user's hardware without requiring cloud services or subscriptions. The release also includes new audio processing workflows via ComfyUI for noise reduction and voice enhancement, alongside ten new visual effects.
