Oper Dortmund wins ‘Rediscovery of the Year’ award

The magazine ‘Opernwelt’ has named the scenic German premiere of Clémence de Grandvals’ ‘Mazeppa’ at Oper Dortmund as the ‘Rediscovery of the Year’ in its critic survey. The production originally premiered in March 2026.

Other major honors from the annual survey include:

• Opera House of the Year: Staatstheater Mainz. • Best Orchestra: Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester. • Best Conductor: Thomas Guggeis. • Director of the Year: Claus Guth. • Singers of the Year: Soprano Elena Stikhina and baritenor Michael Spyres.

Heribert Germeshausen, director of the opera, described the award as ‘a great recognition for the work of our ensemble and team.’
