Oper Leipzig opens 2026/27 season with open house on 5 September

Oper Leipzig will launch its 2026/27 season on 5 September 2026 with a public open‑house day that includes guided tours, technical demonstrations and dance workshops. The day will conclude with an opening concert featuring excerpts from new productions and revivals performed by the Gewandhausorchester under Generalmusikdirektor Ivan Repušić, with guest artists Elbenita Kajtazi, Martin Muehle and Lucio Gallo.

The first premiere of the season, the children's opera "Das hässliche Entlein", will be staged by the Junge Oper Leipzig on 15 September 2026, using a new arrangement by clarinettist Marko Drechsel for string quartet, narrator and dancer. A joint concert with the Oper Madrid children’s choir is scheduled for 4 September 2026 at the Peterskirche. From 19 September the opera "Eurydike" will return, accompanied by a modern ballet choreographed by Fran Díaz.

Classic repertoire will also return to the house: Wagner’s "Der fliegende Holländer" on 12 September, Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte" on 13 September, Puccini’s "Tosca" on 20 September and Verdi’s "La Traviata" on 25 September. The opening concert begins at 18:00 in the Opernhaus.
