Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía launches Baroque music cycle

The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia has inaugurated its ‘Les Arts és Barroc i Música Antiga’ cycle. The program commenced with the concert ‘Idylle’, featuring French mezzo-soprano Léa Desandre and lutenist Thomas Dunford at the Teatre Martín i Soler.

The inaugural performance explores a musical timeline spanning three centuries, connecting 17th-century French ‘airs du cour’ and works by composers such as Michel Lambert and Marc-Antoine Charpentier with 20th-century pieces by Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, and Françoise Hardy.

The cycle will continue through April 2027, featuring a diverse lineup of international artists including Al Ayre Español, Maite Beaumont, Il Giardino Armonico, and Bruno de Sá. Upcoming highlights include a concert version of Händel’s ‘Riccardo Primo’ and a monograph dedicated to the castrato Farinelli.
