Opera na Zamku to premiere ballet adaptation of Lalka
The Opera na Zamku in Szczecin is set to premiere a new ballet adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s classic novel, ‘Lalka’, on October 17. Choreographed by Grzegorz Brożek with musical direction by Kuba Wnuk, the production aims to translate the literary narrative into the language of contemporary dance, light, and music.
The performance focuses on the complex relationship between Stanisław Wokulski and Izabela Łęcka, exploring themes of desire, social rejection, and class division. The production uses metaphor to depict the polarization of 19th-century Polish society, contrasting the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. Libretto author Karol Urbański sought to capture the intense social divides present at the end of the 1870s through this dance medium.
