Opera North appoints Patrick Lange as Music Director

Opera North has announced two major leadership appointments to maintain its cultural presence in Leeds and surrounding areas. Patrick Lange will succeed Garry Walker as Music Director following the conclusion of Walker’s term in August 2028.

Lange, who debuted with the company in 2025 conducting ‘The Magic Flute’, has a background conducting at international venues such as the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, and the Opéra National de Paris. In his new role, he will conduct opera productions in Leeds and on tour, lead symphonic concerts for the Kirklees Concert Season, and support the company’s community and education initiatives.
