Opera productions of Hansel and Gretel announced

Various opera companies are presenting productions of Engelbert Humperdinck’s ‘Hansel and Gretel’.

Longborough Festival Opera has staged an imaginative production directed by Lucy Bailey. The performance features an orchestra conducted by Karen Kamensek and a cast including Joanna Harries as Hansel and Lee Bisset as the Witch.

In Australia, State Opera South Australia will present a new production at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide from August 21 to 29. Directed by Constantine Costi and conducted by Artistic Director Dane Lam, the production features Korean American countertenor Kangmin Justin Kim in his Australian debut as Hansel, alongside American soprano Sofia Troncoso as Gretel. This production is a co-production intended to tour Opera Hong Kong in 2027.
