Opera seasons highlight major productions in Italy and the US

The upcoming opera season highlights significant productions and festivals across Europe and North America. In Italy, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro continues its tradition of scholarly excellence. Established in 1980, the festival utilizes Casa Ricordi critical editions for its productions and hosts the L’Accademia Rossiniana, founded by Alberto Zedda, to train specialized singers.

In New York, the Metropolitan Opera is preparing for its 2026-27 season with a new production of Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’, directed by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and featuring Quinn Kelsey and Lise Davidsen. The MET will also host the world premiere of ‘Lincoln in the Bardo’, based on the novel by George Saunders, with music by Missy Mazzoli and direction by Lileana Blain-Cruz.
