Senior comedian Nunung explained that long‑running sketch program Opera Van Java (OVJ) lost its appeal as cast members grew weary of daily shooting schedules, leading to reduced energy and morale. She noted that the backstage atmosphere changed, with some performers, such as Sule, becoming more irritable.

Nunung also pointed to external pressure from rival comedy shows, especially Trans TV’s "Yuk Keep Smile," which attracted viewers and further weakened OVJ’s ratings. The departure of Sule, who left the program early after receiving a new offer, was highlighted as a key sign of the show's waning popularity.
