Operación Imperio Ámsterdam investigation implicates model and musician

The investigation known as ‘Operación Imperio Ámsterdam’ has led to the formalization of 38 suspects accused of drug trafficking, illicit association, and money laundering in Chile. Among those detained is model Camilo Huerta and musician Juan Pablo Astorga, a member of the duo Mystic Changos.

Newly revealed telephone intercepts analyzed by the Prosecutor's Office and Carabineros' OS-7 unit show criminal gang members discussing Chilean deputies Marisela Santibáñez and Ana María Gazmuri. The conversations suggest the group considered approaching the lawmakers following a decision by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) to deny the replenishment of medicinal marijuana stocks at a plantation.

Both deputies have denied any connection to the individuals involved. Ana María Gazmuri stated, “I do not know any of these two people and they have never contacted me.” Meanwhile, the legal defense for Juan Pablo Astorga intends to challenge the allegations, asserting that if no drug trafficking is proven, the related charges of illicit association and money laundering will also fail.
