Operation Bluebird launches Twitter. now amid trademark dispute with X Corp

Operation Bluebird, a Virginia-based startup, has launched a new social media platform called ‘Twitter. now’. The platform utilizes the original Twitter name and the blue bird logo, a move that directly challenges X Corp. in an ongoing legal dispute over trademark rights.

Co-founder Stephen Coates, a former trademark attorney for Twitter, argues that Elon Musk abandoned the ‘Twitter’ and ‘tweet’ trademarks when he rebranded the platform to ‘X’. While X Corp. maintains full ownership and has filed for an injunction in Delaware federal court, U.S. District Judge Colm Connolly issued a preliminary oral opinion suggesting that X may have indeed relinquished certain rights to the bird logo and the term ‘tweet’. No final written order has been issued.

Twitter. now’ is currently in an early access stage, offering membership tiers for $20 and $40 to fund its legal defense and product development. The platform distinguishes itself through ‘VERA’, an AI-driven system designed to combat misinformation by verifying claims and providing users with trust scores and source context. The startup emphasizes its goal of creating a digital public square focused on transparency and user choice rather than traditional algorithmic moderation.
