Operation Christmas Child distributes shoebox gifts globally

Operation Christmas Child, a project managed by the Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse, continues its international initiative to deliver shoebox gifts to children in need. The program encourages families, schools, and community groups to pack boxes containing items such as toys, school supplies, and hygiene products.

Since its inception in 1993, the project has reportedly reached more than 244 million children across over 175 countries and territories. While the program is rooted in Christian outreach and includes sharing the Gospel through local church partners, participation is open to individuals from all backgrounds.

In regions such as the Mohawk Valley, local collection sites facilitate the distribution of these gifts during designated National Collection Weeks. The initiative serves as a hands-on service project for children to learn about generosity and global awareness.
