Operation Cincar: Joint HVO and Army of BiH liberation of Kupres

Operation Cincar, the first joint military action between the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) following the Washington Agreement, took place from November 1 to November 3, 1994. Named after Mount Cincar, the operation resulted in the liberation of approximately 600 square kilometers of territory, including the town of Kupres and the Kupres Plateau.

The operation aimed to remove forces of the Army of Republika Srpska from strategically important passes, such as Malovan and Kupreška vrata. Key outcomes included opening the Bugojno–Livno road, which improved supply routes from Dalmatia to central Bosnia, and halting enemy offensives toward Bihać.

Military leadership for the HVO was provided by the Split Command Area via the 2nd Guards Brigade, while the ARBiH 7th Corps was responsible for the Bosnian side. This coordinated effort is cited as a precursor to subsequent major military operations, including Operation Storm.
