Operation Oluja 31st Anniversary Marked Across Croatia
Across Croatia, the 31st anniversary of the 1995 military operation Oluja was commemorated with a series of memorial events in early August 2026. In Lekenik, a two‑day programme featured a tactical‑technical display of Croatian Army equipment, a concert by Prljavo kazalište and a youth football tournament. On Krk, the “Oluja na Kvarneru” ceremony lit 222 torches to honour the 222 Kvarner veterans who fell, marking the event’s 10th anniversary.
In Koprivnica, the 13th International Shooting Tournament “Oluja 95” gathered 24 teams and 33 veteran associations from Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and Bosnia‑Herzegovina, with speeches by local officials and a wreath‑laying ceremony at the city’s veterans’ monument. Vukšić hosted a solemn ceremony on 3 August, with wreaths and candles at the local war memorial, followed by a cultural programme featuring harmonikaist Ive Knežević. The Museum of the Homeland War in Dubrovnik opened the exhibition “VRO Oluja on Banovina 1995”, displaying wartime photographs and video. HTV broadcast the documentary film “Dream of Freedom” about veterans on 5 August. Politician Milorad Pupovac used the anniversary to warn against revisionist interpretations of the operation. These events combined remembrance, cultural performances and public discourse to honour the veterans and civilians of the 1995 conflict.
