Operational requirements for professional drone teams

Professional drone operations for public safety, industrial inspection, and infrastructure security require rigorous planning regarding insurance and operational compliance.

When hiring drone subcontractors, businesses must clearly define the relationship between the client, the hiring company, and the pilot. Key considerations include determining who supplies the aircraft and payload, who maintains the client relationship, and how responsibilities are distributed. It is essential to review subcontractor insurance certificates and ensure that the subcontracting plan accurately reflects whether the pilot provides a complete flight service or only labor.

Successful mission execution also depends on establishing a clear Concept of Operations (ConOps). This document should detail flight environments, such as urban or rural areas, and flight modes, including Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) or Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS). Furthermore, teams must maintain audit-ready records of crew competence, defined roles, and training syllabi to meet regulatory requirements such as STS, PDRA, or SORA in European airspace.
