Ophthalmologist dies in head-on collision on BR-101 in Bahia

Ophthalmologist Leonardo de Oliveira Dias, 35, died following a head-on collision between his vehicle and a truck on the BR-101 highway in Bahia, Brazil. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday near kilometer 184 in the municipality of São Gonçalo dos Campos.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), Dias was driving a Fiat Toro when the impact occurred. The force of the collision left him trapped in the wreckage, and he died at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured and remained at the location. Emergency responders, including the Fire Department, Civil Police, and the Technical Police Department (DPT), attended the scene.

Dias was a well-known professional who provided medical services in several municipalities, including Itaberaba, Muritiba, and Cachoeira. Local municipal health secretariats and city administrations issued notes of condolence, praising his professional contributions to the region. A territorial police station has opened an inquiry to investigate the specific causes of the crash.
