Ophthalmology services expand through technology and public health initiatives in Brazil

Ophthalmology services in Brazil are seeing both technological advancements and expanded public access. Visare Hospital de Olhos has completed a modernization of its surgical center, integrating high-resolution microscopes, lasers, and phacoemulsifiers to increase precision in procedures involving the retina, glaucoma, and cataracts.

In Canoas, the Hospital Universitário (HU) has announced the second edition of the Nova Visão Program. Scheduled for September 24–26, this initiative aims to perform 700 cataract surgeries through the Unified Health System (SUS). Managed by the Associação Saúde em Movimento (ASM) in coordination with the Municipal Health Secretariat, the program prioritizes patients who previously underwent surgery on one eye and are now awaiting the procedure for the second eye.
