OPIA emphasizes Romania's strategic defence role at business forum

During the third French-Romanian Security & Defence Business Forum, the Romanian Defence Industry Employers' Organisation (OPIA) emphasized the strategic role of Romania's defence sector in securing the Eastern Flank and enhancing European industrial resilience.

OPIA President Razvan Pircalabescu, who also serves as CEO of ROMARM, highlighted the necessity of investment, technology transfer, and the development of competitive production capacities. The organization aims to support the reindustrialization of Romania's defence sector to better integrate it into European and transatlantic value chains.

A key strategic goal for OPIA is to increase the national defence industry's contribution to 5% of the country's GDP. The organization advocates for directing a significant portion of defence funding toward domestic production to supply the Romanian armed forces, NATO, and EU partners. Additionally, OPIA seeks to leverage Romania's existing civilian expertise in software, IT, and the automotive sectors to develop new defence-related technologies.
