Opobo Kingdom crowns King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja as sixth Amanyanabo

King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja has been formally crowned as the sixth Amanyanabo of the Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State. Taking the title Jeki VI, he succeeds the late King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who passed away in 2025.

The coronation ceremony, held at King Jaja Square in Opobo Town, was attended by prominent figures including former President Goodluck Jonathan, the NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and various traditional rulers such as the Olu of Warri and the Obi of Onitsha.

During the event, Goodluck Jonathan urged the new monarch to promote peace, unity, and development, noting the historical significance of the kingdom's founder, King Jaja. Representing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in preserving cultural identity and community stability. King Charles pledged to protect the rights of his people and uphold the dignity of the throne.
