Poland discusses energy security and climate policy at Karpacz Forum

At the XXXV Economic Forum in Karpacz, Polish officials discussed critical pillars of national energy and environmental security. Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka emphasized that the energy transition is driven by the need for independence and resilience rather than ideology. He highlighted the importance of domestic supply chains for upcoming nuclear power projects and noted that coal will remain part of the energy mix until nuclear capacity is operational.

Regarding environmental policy, Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska reviewed the performance of Poland’s deposit return system following its first summer season. Since its introduction in October 2025, the system has collected 3.2 billion containers. The Ministry plans to meet with operators in late September or October to improve logistics and discuss potential expansions of the system, such as including glass packaging.

Additionally, the National Debate on Climate Security addressed the necessity of protecting water resources and ecosystems. Minister Hennig-Kloska noted that forest protection and climate adaptation are fundamental to Poland’s economic and military stability, highlighting efforts to increase forest reserves and protect vital water reservoirs.
