Opole revives historic Wrocławska cemetery with multi‑million zł renovation
Seventy‑four years after a 1952 decision to close the cemetery on Wrocławska Street, Opole is completing a major revitalisation of the historic site. The renovation, funded with more than 2 million zł from the Polish Ład program, restores the historic wall, refurbishes alleys, and adds a new entrance from Niemodlińska Street, along with benches, lighting and new tree plantings.
The work is overseen by the municipal Communal Department (Zakład Komunalny) and the City Hall, with contractor BESTOPEBEL carrying out the construction. The project also includes restoring notable graves of local figures such as Karol Knosala, Józef Obuchowski and Caspar Wrzodek, preserving the cemetery’s cultural heritage for Opole residents.
