Opportunity Party gains traction ahead of New Zealand election
As New Zealand approaches its November election, the Opportunity Party is gaining traction among voters dissatisfied with the traditional dominance of the Labour and National parties. Recent polls suggest approximately 5% to 8% of voters plan to support the newcomer centrist party.
Led by businesswoman and sustainability consultant Qiulae Wong, the Opportunity Party advocates for market-driven solutions, evidence-based policy, and a low-emission future. Key policy proposals include a land tax and a universal basic income of $370 per week. The party was originally established three elections ago by economist Gareth Morgan.
