Opposition alliances form in Kenya and Pakistan

Political opposition groups in Kenya and Pakistan have formed or strengthened alliances to challenge current leadership.

In Kenya, the principals of the United Alternative Government signed a unity deal in Kiambu County on August 24. The agreement includes a Personal Unity Pledge and a Coalition Unity Agreement designed to consolidate their alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election. The leaders committed to a credible process for selecting a presidential candidate and pledged to support the chosen flag bearer to present a transformative alternative to the electorate.

In Pakistan, an opposition alliance comprising PTI, JUI, MWM, PKMAP, and the Sunni Ittehad Council has agreed on a joint parliamentary strategy. The coalition intends to challenge the government on economic issues, including inflation, unemployment, fuel prices, and rising utility bills. The parties agreed to make key parliamentary decisions through mutual consensus rather than individual party actions, aiming to strengthen the democratic system and pursue constitutional change.
