Opposition coalition in DRC rejects consultations, maintains September march

The Article 64 Coalition (C64), a prominent opposition platform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has rejected President Félix Tshisekedi’s proposed popular consultations. The coalition, which includes political figures such as Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, and Jean-Marc Kabund, maintains its call for a national march scheduled for September 15, 2026.

The C64 accuses the presidency of using these consultations as a pretext to modify the Constitution to allow President Tshisekedi to seek a third term. The opposition also claims the administration is instrumentalizing the security crisis in the eastern part of the country to maintain power.

Adding to the opposition movement, the Democratic and Christian Social Party (PDSC) has announced its support for the C64 and the planned march. The PDSC emphasized that the 2006 Constitution must not be altered to serve personal political ambitions and called for an inclusive national dialogue to preserve institutional stability and peace.
