Opposition coalition rebrands as Ukombozi Alliance for 2027 elections

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has officially rebranded as the Ukombozi Alliance. Announced by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on September 21, 2026, the name change is part of a strategic effort to consolidate opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Musyoka stated that the new alliance will be guided by the philosophy ‘One Term, One Team, One Coalition’. The coalition intends to expand its reach through consultations with other political formations, including scheduled deliberations with the Jubilee Party to determine the alliance's future direction.

Musyoka emphasized that the upcoming election should be viewed as a contest between President William Ruto and the leaders challenging him, rather than a personal rivalry between Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Siaya Governor James Orengo also supported the move, describing the rebranding as a step toward creating a united opposition movement.
