Opposition groups in Togo and DRC mobilize against constitutional changes

Political opposition groups in Togo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are organizing actions to address constitutional concerns and socio-political instability.

In Togo, the Cadre national de concertation pour le changement (CNCC)—including the Alliance nationale pour le changement (ANC), ADDI, FDR, and PSR—is holding a public conference in Lomé on September 4. The meeting aims to discuss the country’s socio-political situation and institutional divisions, following a memorandum from opposition groups and a ruling by the ECOWAS Court of Justice regarding Togo’s 2024 constitutional revision.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the C64 coalition has called for a protest on September 15 in Kinshasa. Demonstrators plan to gather in front of the Palais du Peuple to oppose proposed constitutional changes. Franklin Tshiamala, representing the C64, criticized the government for prioritizing constitutional amendments over pressing issues such as security in the east, the Ebola epidemic, unemployment, and corruption.
