Opposition leaders in Lagunillas demand free elections and prisoner release

Opposition leaders from the Plataforma Unitaria, Vente Venezuela, and Un Nuevo Tiempo mobilized in the Lagunillas municipality of Zulia state on October 22. The demonstration, following a call by opposition leader María Corina Machado, demanded the convening of presidential elections, increased political freedoms, and the release of political prisoners.

The event featured a meeting between Lagunillas Mayor José Mosquera and Marlat Martínez, the municipal coordinator for Vente Venezuela. While the participation of Un Nuevo Tiempo members was noted, representatives stated that the level of formal political reintegration with the Plataforma Unitaria remains to be determined. The mobilization also saw significant involvement from civil society members.
