Opposition parties challenge Osvaldo Jaldo reelection in Argentina

Four opposition political groups in Tucumán have filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to prevent Osvaldo Jaldo from seeking reelection in 2027. The groups—Cambia Tucumán, PRO, Fuerza Republicana, and CREO—are seeking to declare Article 90 of the Tucumán Constitution partially unconstitutional.

The legal challenge argues that the current interpretation of the article allows an individual to serve two terms as vice governor and two terms as governor, potentially resulting in 16 consecutive years of control over the province's executive, legislative, and judicial powers. The plaintiffs contend that this violates the national constitutional requirement for a republican model of government.

Notably, the La Libertad Avanza party, led by Lisandro Catalán, did not sign the demand despite its political platform focusing on limits to power. The legal action is being represented by attorney Marcelo Giullitti Oliva and targets the province directly through the Supreme Court's original jurisdiction.
