Opposition parties label Constitutional Court proceedings a ‘Kafkaesque process’
Berdia Sichinava, a representative for the ‘For Georgia’ party, has criticized the ongoing proceedings in the Constitutional Court regarding the potential ban of opposition parties, describing them as a politically motivated ‘Kafkaesque process.’
Sichinava claims that despite the accelerated nature of the hearings, the specific constitutional charges and the exact reasons for the proposed bans remain unclear. He stated that the lack of transparency regarding which specific actions or dispositions are deemed unconstitutional indicates that the process lacks true justice and is driven by political motives.
The legal challenge, signed by 88 members of the Parliament and initiated by the ‘Georgian Dream’ party, seeks to declare several political entities unconstitutional, including the ‘United – National Movement’ and ‘Coalition.’ Hearings are expected to continue under an accelerated procedure throughout the coming week.
