Oprah Winfrey discusses surviving childhood sexual abuse

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey shared details regarding her survival of repeated sexual abuse during her childhood while appearing on ‘The Mel Robbins Podcast’. Winfrey, 72, disclosed that she was abused at the ages of 9, 10, and 14.

During the conversation, Winfrey addressed the psychological impact of the trauma, recalling the questions she asked herself for years regarding why the abuse occurred. She explicitly rejected the notion that ‘everything happens for a reason’, stating that such horrific experiences are neither justified nor predestined.

Winfrey explained that while the events were not ‘supposed’ to happen, she has found a sense of purpose in her survival by using her experiences to help and advocate for other women. She emphasized that victims bear no responsibility for the abuse they endure.
