Oprah Winfrey utilizes private aviation for global business privacy

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has utilized private aviation throughout her career to maintain privacy and manage a global business schedule. Her transition to private travel was reportedly motivated by a four-hour delay at Chicago O’Hare.

Winfrey has owned five private aircraft, all sharing the N540W tail number. Her fleet history includes a Gulfstream IV purchased in 1991, a Canadian-produced Bombardier Global Express XRS, a Gulfstream G550 acquired in 2013, and a G650ER in 2016. Most recently, she added a Gulfstream G700 to her fleet in 2025.

The use of ultra-long-range aircraft allows for nonstop international travel, such as connecting New York to Tokyo, providing a mobile office environment for sensitive business discussions.
