Optimal coffee consumption timing and dietary tips
New research and dietary suggestions offer different perspectives on optimizing coffee consumption. Psychologist Eamon Fulcher, in collaboration with Thrive London, developed the ‘Coffee A. M. Formula’ to determine the ideal time for caffeine intake. The formula aims to align caffeine peaks with the natural decline of cortisol, the hormone responsible for alertness upon waking. According to the study, consuming coffee immediately upon waking may be ineffective or cause unnecessary stress because cortisol levels are already high. The formula calculates the optimal time based on wake-up time, sleep duration, and morning routines to ensure caffeine provides maximum benefit when natural alertness begins to dip.
Regarding dietary habits, adding a small amount of cinnamon to coffee is suggested as a way to reduce sugar intake. While cinnamon is not a weight-loss miracle and evidence from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health remains inconclusive regarding its direct fat-burning properties, its aroma can make coffee taste sweeter. This allows individuals to potentially replace calorie-dense sweeteners with a spice that adds minimal calories, aiding in long-term dietary management.
