Optimal Times to Drink Coffee for Better Energy and Health

Health experts advise that drinking coffee on an empty stomach can trigger a cortisol spike, the body's stress hormone, which prompts the liver to release stored glucose and may lead to energy crashes later in the day. Fruit juices high in fructose have a similar effect, causing rapid blood‑sugar spikes followed by sharp declines. An alternative morning drink—lukewarm water mixed with raw apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of Ceylon cinnamon—has been promoted by nutritionists as a “liquid gold” that slows stomach emptying, improves insulin sensitivity and provides steadier glucose levels.

Research on caffeine timing indicates that the most effective periods for coffee consumption are mid‑morning (approximately 9:30 – 11:30) after the natural cortisol peak has fallen, and early afternoon (around noon – 15:00) to counter post‑lunch energy dips. Delaying the first cup by about 90 minutes after waking can enhance its energising effect, while avoiding coffee after 15:00 helps prevent sleep disturbances, as caffeine can remain in the system for six to eight hours. Individual tolerance varies, so people should consider personal sensitivity to caffeine and stress levels when planning their coffee intake.
